Sometimes you simply fall in love.
In 2024 we bought a plot of land in Carovigno, a charming town in Puglia, where we are currently building our own house. But more about that later!
Last October we were back in Carovigno for a building meeting. Between appointments we visited all kinds of local shops and interior stores. Everywhere we came across the most beautiful colours, special materials and surprising combinations. I knew at once: I want to do something with this!
There was just one small problem. All those colours and ideas did not fit the house we were building at the time at all.

And then it happened.
I came across a small building. Completely derelict, rather neglected and perhaps not exactly a dream house at first glance. But I fell in love with it on the spot.
The high ceilings, the authentic details, a garden of its own and even a roof terrace. All of it in a friendly Italian residential neighbourhood, within walking distance of the historic centre of Carovigno, where you eat wonderfully well, by the way.
I could see it straight away. A colourful house, full of character, special finds and a mix of old and new. A place where I could finally put all those ideas to use.
So I called our builder and asked him to come and take a look. His verdict? A great deal would have to be done, but what I had in mind was certainly possible.

That was really all I needed to hear.
There was negotiating over the price, a good deal of back and forth on the phone, and before I knew it I was booking another ticket to Italy. This time not for a building meeting, but for an appointment at the notary's.
And so La Rosalina was born.
I still find myself asking now and then: why on earth did I do this? One house isn't even finished yet and the next project has already been bought!
But then, some things simply cannot be explained entirely rationally.
